I’ve recently moved to Singapore, an experience I was so looking forward to live. Coincidence or not, I happen to live few minutes walk from the famous Orchard road, a shopaholic’s dream. Except… I’m not a shopaholic!
So here I am, surrounded by these massive shopping malls, on my left, on my right, 3 floors up and 3 floors down. Ads and flashes on. I remember
I lived in London before, and can’t really complain about the lack of stores, but I was doing my best to run away from the consumer’s paradise and remain ignorant when it comes to brands. Am I about to change? I guess we’ll need more time to find out.
Meanwhile, if you happen to be shopping around Orchard Central shopping mall and need a break, here are a few places I’ve been to and would recommend.
At ground level, there are many coffee shops. Joe & Dough is towards one of the exits, but a bit further than the MRT station, so I found it more quiet than the others.
The place looks modern yet cosy, with glass walls and books on shelves mixed together. The menu has a great variety to choose from, healthy and creative, I would say hipster style. I love it.
If you look for an amazing dining experience, Joie is the right place. You go up to 12th level and enjoy the meal on a terrace with beautiful city views. Everything is decorated as a garden and at night it lights up. They have a standard menu of 6 dishes, all vegetarian.
There are many places to try, and best to look for the ads around lifts and stairs. The numbers will tell you which floor to go to, for example, if the address has #12-02, it means it’s located
Orchard Central is a relatively small one compared to others, and without realising, you walk into the next shopping malls like 313@somerset, which also leads to the MRT Somerset. Because it’s all connected, like a maze 🙂
